A water photographer is in hospital with chunk wounds after an obvious seal assault on the New Zealand Professional World Surf League occasion.
Australian Ed Sloane had puncture wounds to an ankle and had a flipper ripped off within the assault.
Organisers suspect a seal, reasonably than a shark, attacked Sloane.
