Feb. 8 (UPI) — German national airline Lufthansa has revealed a new, modernized image for its airliner fleet.

The carrier’s new design was unveiled in livery on a Boeing 747-8 and an Airbus A321 in Frankfurt and Munich Wednesday. The planes showcased the new look — which includes a blue crane that replaces the traditional blue and yellow version that was designed 100 years ago.

Lufthansa’s new branding comes with a new social media hashtag, #ExploreTheNew, which was used in company tweets revealing the new look.

“Nothing compares to the look of a freshly painted plane: welcome back to the fleet, Yankee Alpha.

The carrier said its darker blue logo, which is now the leading brand color, is “more elegant” and stands for “reliability, clarity and value.” It is Lufthansa’s first redesign in decades.

“Lufthansa has changed and is more modern and successful than ever. From now on, this will also be visible to the public through a new design”, said Carsten Spohr, chairman of the executive board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. “The crane has always been with us and clearly stands for the promising performance from Lufthansa. To this day, it still stands as a symbol of highest quality, excellent service, flying expertise, reliability, innovative spirit; and it stands for trust.”

Millions of items like uniforms, tableware, amenity kits, blankets and pillowcases will be updated with the new look over the next two years.

The airline said it will also invest in more fuel-efficient aircraft and improve customer service.

The new design will serve the airline for decades to come, the company said.

“#ExploreTheNew: Today, this is how we take a new step forward.”
